All About Blackberry Q20

The phone has been one of the best and affordable phones made by Blackberry, Some call it Blackberry Classic, while some call it Q20.

Blackberry Q20

The phone people are talking about
A QWERTY cum touchscreen device
The Blackberry Q20 continues the legacy of QWERTY devices where Blackberry rules the roost. The phone flaunts a 3.5-inch touchscreen display, which is largest till date on a Blackberry QWERTY smartphone. The large touchscreen provides your more space to do your stuffs.

The device runs Blackberry 10 OS  and holds connectivity features like 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Blackberry email services etc. It has been crafted from premium materials in order to provide durability and reliability to users.
Verdict
The Blackberry Q20 comes as delight to the users who prefer QWERTY but don't want to live with a small display anymore. In addition, it drops the taboo of enterprise-only image of Blackberry smartphones with a host of connectivity and entertainment features.

Key Features
  • 16GB Internal Memory
  • 2GB RAM
  • 5-inch 720p IPS Display
  • 8MP Rear Camera, 2MP Front Camera
  • Blackberry 10 OS

Yesterday brought us some interesting news from BlackBerry, with the company announcing two new BlackBerry 10 smartphones. While the Z3 will be available in just a matter of weeks, its Indonesian-only focus took some of the air out of the news. But then we also learned about the Q20, the next BB10 model with a hardware QWERTY keyboard, though one that won’t hit retail until the second half of the year. The Q20 intrigued us so due to the way it seemed to backpedal in BlackBerry’s evolution, restoring the hardware buttons and trackpad from pre-BB10 designs. Now we hear a little more about what BlackBerry’s up to with such a move, and what it spells for future devices.
The Q20 may be the first with those old accoutrements in a while, but it’s not going to be the last. BlackBerry intends to deliver a series of “classic” BB10 models, retaining the look-and-feel of previous generation devices. Oh, and we still don’t have an official pic of the Q20, but that fan render up top looks like a decent enough guess (even if the front and back don’t match), given what we know.
That’s just one segment of theMARKETBlackBerry’s going for. Beyond those classic phones, it’s also going to keep making more affordable models (like that Z3 will be), real BB10 flagships (like the Z30 we got last year), and a few super premium models (like those Porsche Design BlackBerrys).

We also get a bit of a boastful tease form new CEO John Chen, saying that some of those higher-end flagship models will be appealing enough to not just wow existing BlackBerry fans, but to lure users away from other platforms. That sounds like a tall order to us, but we’d be pleased as punch to see BlackBerry pull off such a feat.

The Difference Between IPhone and Blackberry Phones

If you would ask me which one i prefer, i should say Blackberry

  1. The looks
In terms of design both devices look amazing and can steal a glance. The design of the iPhone was definitely something that took Cell-phone design into a different level nevertheless the last Blackberries if compared to the old ones are extremely stylish. However if we had to give the price for the best looks then it would go to the elegant and sexy looking iPhone, but again this comes down to the matter of personal taste.

  2. Email Service
And the Oscar goes to the Blackberry. Due to the fact that a Blackberry is connected to the Microsoft Exchange server which allows the device download an email instantly on the phone plus it has an LED informing you that your new email has arrived this phones consider the best in this area. On the contrary it takes at least 15 minutes for an iPhone to recognize a new email and you should be checking all the time if you have a new email.

  3. Typing-Writing
In this case you would be looking at a virtual keyboard on the iPhone and a full QWERTY keyboard on a Blackberry (apart from the Storm model). The Blackberry will give you the feeling of using your computers keyboard which for some it is a convenience instead of having to learn how to type on a virtual keyboard. In this case we leave it to you as it depends on what kind of use you need your phone for.

  4. Entertainment – Multimedia
The iPhone was mainly developed for this purpose. To you give you excellent video, music and image handling entertainment. There is just a single point that Blackberry stands ahead and that is the quality of its camera nevertheless in respect of multimedia abilities iPhone is considered better one.

  5. User Friendly
Both devices have their advantages in terms of usability. When you first place you hands on an iPhone you might find it a bit strange to operate it due to its full touch-screen design. However after sometime you find it an enjoyable game-style experience. About the Blackberry it has the ability of doing things quicker as it is full of shortcut keys. So again we leave this one to you.

In addition to these major drawbacks of the iPhone, our venture capitalist cites the following as reasons to prefer the BlackBerry:
  • The BlackBerry 8800 possesses GPS, which makes Google Maps much more useful, especially for turn-by-turn directions
  • The iPhone lacks basic cut and paste capabilities
  • Despite Apple’s reputation for superior user interface design, the BlackBerry possesses keyboard shortcuts that make navigation around and between applications a breeze
  • The BlackBerry’s phone quality is better than the iPhone’s
  • The Safari browser is certainly more stunning than the BlackBerry’s primitive browser, but the iPhone seems to load even text-only pages more slowly than the BlackBerry over the EDGE network
  • The BlackBerry possesses a general contacts application that makes contacting people by any given method more convenient
  • The battery runs out faster on the iPhone simply because it is used for more tasks. This makes it less reliable for when one must take the device somewhere overnight without the opportunity to recharge.
Despite all of these criticisms of the iPhone, our venture capitalist admits that he would switch over to the iPhone if only it supported push email, calendar and contacts synchronization, and GPS. For him, the prospect of ridding his pockets of a separate device for music (an iPod nano), as well as enjoying all of the iPhone’s slick features (such as full-featured web browsing, stocks and weather apps, and its YouTube program), makes the iPhone very tempting. However, until Apple resolves these shortcomings (and perhaps Google makes its applications, especially Gmail, work as seamlessly with the iPhone as Microsoft makes Exchange work with the BlackBerry), others are going to have to pry his BlackBerry from his cold, dead hands (his words, mind you, not ours).

List of blackberry Phones

BlackBerry Cell Phones are made in Canada and their main focus is email. BlackBerry handsets usually don't offer free do-it-yourself ringtones and graphics and use a proprietary PDA-like interface.
Choosing the right phone among BlackBerry Cell Phones can be tricky. The best way to go is to take my Cell phone chooser test. It asks you 20 important questions and looks at all BlackBerry Cell Phones and the phones of other manufacturers currently on the U.S. and Canadian markets and returns your five best cell phones.

Blackberry Upgrade

If you want to upgrade your blackberry phone, you need to take this steps,
Did you know your BlackBerry® smartphone includes sophisticated software right on the device? It provides you with the full-featured applications and advanced functionality you use every day.

I put this guide together for those who are interested, or don’t know how to, upgrade their BlackBerry Operating System (OS).
Before you begin, make sure you have the latest BlackBerry Desktop Manager (DM) available at RIM’s site:
Now that you have the latest DM we can continue with upgrading your BlackBerry OS. First thing’s first…make a backup! Run the DM and select Backup/Restore, then Backup and select where you want the file saved.
WARNING: Do this at your own risk. I am not responsible for any problems that may occur as a result of following this guide. Like I always say…make plenty of backups!
Upgrade your BlackBerry OS
STEP 1
How To: Upgrade your BlackBerry Operating System (OS)
  • Locate and identify your current BlackBerry OS version. (Note that I have 4.6.1.168)
  • Find it here: Options > About
  • You need to identify your current OS version to know whether you are upgrading or downgrading. For the purpose of this guide you are upgrading, but the process is the same for downgrading your OS.
STEP 2
How To: Upgrade your BlackBerry Operating System (OS)
  • Download and install the BlackBerry OS you want to upgrade to.
  • You can get the latest BlackBerry OS for your BlackBerry at your service provider’s website. An example would be tmobile.com/bbupgrade for T-Mobile USA. Your service provider will have the latest official OS for your BlackBerry.
  • You can also check for and upgrade to the latest OS for your BlackBerry at the RIM BlackBerry Site here. Internet Explorer is required for this update method.
  • In the event that you decide you want to install an unofficial BlackBerry OS or an OS from another service provider you must follow these steps:
    • Download and install the unofficial OS or other service provider’s OS.
    • On your PC go to Program Files > Common Files > Research In Motion > AppLoader
    • Delete the vendor.xml file.
  • NOTE: BlackBerry Operating Systems are specific to the BlackBerry model they were created for. For example, you can only use an OS meant for the Pearl 8100 on another Pearl 8100, and not on the Curve 8320 or on a Pearl 8110.
STEP 3
How To: Upgrade your BlackBerry Operating System (OS)
  • To install/upgrade the BlackBerry OS you installed on your PC you can do one of two things.
  • If the OS you installed on your PC is your service provider’s, simply run BlackBerry Desktop Manager and select Application Loader.
  • If the OS you installed on your PC is unofficial or from another service provider you must use the Loader program, which you can find in the same location the vendor.xml file was:
    • On your PC go to Program Files > Common Files > Research In Motion > AppLoader
  • I prefer using the Loader program (official OS or not) because it is basically the Application Loader without the BlackBerry Desktop Manager running in the background.
  • For the purpose of this guide I will be using the Loader program.
STEP 4
How To: Upgrade your BlackBerry Operating System (OS)
  • Run the Loader program.
  • Go through the prompts and make sure all the settings are the way you want them to be, including which applications will be included in the update, which languages you want, etc.
  • You will come to a screen that asks you if you want to automatically backup device application data (including messages) and then restore the backup after the process is complete. It is highly recommended that you do this even though we made an initial backup in the beginning.
STEP 5
How To: Upgrade your BlackBerry Operating System (OS)
  • In the next screen you will come to a summary page of what will happen in the update process. Click finish.
  • Your BlackBerry OS will now be upgraded, along with the other settings you specified.
STEP 6
How To: Upgrade your BlackBerry Operating System (OS)
  • After the loading operation is complete your BlackBerry might take a few minutes to load up completely.
  • Make sure that the upgrade was successful by checking Options > About on your BlackBerry. (Note that I now have 4.6.1.174 vs 4.6.1.168 from the beginning)
I hope you all found this guide useful. If you know of anything I might have missed or think I should add something be sure to let me know
